Hair dryer sound for babies — without the hair dryer
General information, not medical advice.
Parents have used the hair dryer, vacuum cleaner and bathroom fan as baby-soothers for generations, and the reason is simple: they produce a loud, steady, broadband sound with a low hum — a lot like the noise a baby hears in the womb. The sound is the helpful part. The appliance is not.
Why not use the real thing
- Heat and electricity. A running hair dryer left near a cot is a burn and fire risk. Appliances aren't designed to run unattended for a long time.
- Loudness. Household appliances are often much louder than the level recommended for infant sleep machines; see our safe-volume guide.
- Your time. Holding a hair dryer is no way to spend the first months.
Get the sound only
Dozefan's Hair Dryer sound has a Cool-to-Hot control that shifts the tone from a soft whoosh to a brighter, hotter blast. Together with Vacuum Cleaner, Box Fan, Tower Fan (with oscillation) and Air Conditioner you can find the household sound your baby likes — generated live on your phone, level-matched, and with a timer that fades it out.
Place the phone or speaker at least 2 m (7 ft) from the crib, keep the volume low, and use the timer.
